Our Story

Established in 2010, Salt Community Trust has been making a positive impact on the lives of children, youth, families, and the broader community of Hibiscus Coast for nearly 15 years.

Our Mission

To be a long-term, stable, and significant contributor to the well-being of people on the Hibiscus Coast.

We want to see everyone on the Hibiscus Coast thriving. For us, this means supporting the physical, mental, social, and spiritual wellbeing of our community over a long period. True change happens in the context of community, and we’ve made it our mission to serve, nourish, and engage our community on the coast.

Our Team

Our core team are the engine behind Salt’s service to the community.

The Primary Project programme has been designed to compliment the 24-7 initiative. We currently provide four Youth Workers who are placed across six local primary schools. The programme helps young people thrive through positive mentoring and relationship building.

Our Youth Wellbeing facilitators lead a variety of programmes across schools in the Orewa Kahui Ako (a cluster of 7 schools on the Hibiscus Coast with a combined student population of approx. 4500). These programmes address specific needs in relation to the behavioural, emotional, social, and general wellbeing of students experiencing increased anger, loss, grief, disengagement, and adverse weather events.

We have had the privilege of working closely with Orewa College since 2015. Currently, we have five youth workers based at Orewa College, working under the nationwide 24-7 Youth Programme. Our team work closely with the College's Guidance Department, and teaching staff, to offer a relationship based mentoring programme to students needing additional support and friendship.
